Well, I bought this phone for the Android Operative System, It already came with the Froyo Update, all the cool features were enabled (Menu navigation, HD Video Recording, etc...) the widgets are just excellent, useful and some of them are for fun, like the Friend Stream, which allows you to have your Facebook/Twitter updates in a single window, another nice widget is the Weather, it locates you where you are, if I move to a different city, it will show the current position and the weather (Data transmission required). The camera is Fantastic, it take excellent pictures and HD Videos with Great quality.<br />

The phone itself is not too heavy, very comfortable in your hands and so intuitive to use, the Android OS manage everything in such a fantastic way (Phone alerts, text messages, widgets, visual effect) you really enjoy using the phone, I had some problems setting up the Internet for my Service Provider (I thought I already had active, but no =P), but I finally did it, it works like a charm I am able to access Internet and a very smooth way, use my Mercury Messenger application (Downloaded from Android Market), download music, everything; I really like the way how the phone manage my Emails (Email Widget by HTC), you have the option to see just the headers, a little of the message or the whole message. The "People" Application (By HTC) allows you to link your phone contact with their Facebook/Twitter/Flickr account, you can select which picture from the services you want to use as a contact picture, if the contact updates that picture, it will be updated in your phone too, you can see all the contact's updates from the People application to have more specific information about that contact specifically. The phone works really fast (It has never froze with me) even though I have many applications running in background, remember that the amount of applications you have running at the same time is proportional to the battery consumption, besides of the Social Network applications it also has some business applications, like the PDF viewer and Quick Office.<br />

Andorid PDF Viewer is a viewer for PDF-Files on ANDROID mobiles. The implementation will be a port of the pdf-renderer which is published by SUN under the LGPL: https://pdf-renderer.dev.java.net/. The first version will be very slow, so do not hurry...<br />

Most animated GIFs used today are derived from video clips. QGifer is a near perfect video to GIF converter that allows you extract part of a video file and convert it into an animated GIF image with plenty of options for editing and customization.<br />
<br />
Start by loading a video file into the program. The video file should be of one of the following formats - AVI, MPG, MP4 and OGV. The video is displayed in the video preview panel on the right. The playback controls are at the top, along with numerous buttons for editing the animated GIF.<br />
<br />
To extract a part of the video, you have to select the start and stop frame of the animated GIF. The easiest way to do this is to playback the video to the desired part, and then pause it. Use the “previous frame” and “next frame” buttons (or the left/right keyboard arrow keys) to move the video backward or forward frame by frame until you arrive at the precise frame you want to use as the start frame for your animated GIF. From the Edit menu, click on “Start from the current frame”, to mark the current frame as the start frame.<br />
<br />
Repeat the above procedure to locate the end frame, only this time click on “Stop at current frame” on the Edit menu to mark the end frame of the video.<br />
<br />
You can also select the start and stop frame by directly entering the frame numbers in the Output Properties box, or use the start and end sliders at the bottom of the video preview window.<br />
<br />
Keep the video clipping short otherwise the resulting animated GIF will be too large in size.<br />
<br />
Under the various editing toolboxes on the left, you can specify the width and height of the GIF image, set margins or get rid of them, make color corrections (hue, saturation and brightness) and optionally, add a median blur. You can set the frame rate, zoom, if necessary, and decide whether you want the animation to loop or not.<br />
<br />
An animated GIF is incomplete without a caption, especially if you intend to use it as part of a meme. QGifer allows you to add text and other images as objects to the animated GIF. These can be dragged and resized, and applied to a single frame or all the frames.<br />

Before you hit the “Extract GIF” button, there is one last step – update the color palette using the “Update palette” action in Edit menu. This will keep the original colors of the video clip in the animated GIF image. Failing to do this will result either in a black and white animated GIF or a GIF with poor color reproduction.<br />

After the GIF has been extracted, it will playback a preview. Here you can append a reverse copy of the GIF to avoid the sharp transition that occurs when the last frame ends and the first frame starts as it loops. You can also add a pause interval between the original and reversed copy. To fasten the playback and shorten the video duration, you can choose to skip frames. Once you are done, click the Save GIF button to save the animated GIF.<br />

Tiny digital cameras attached or built in computers used to share images or videos in the internet are called webcams or web cameras. Using this tiny device is fun at the same time it is very addictive. It lets people connect with other people situated anywhere around the globe. Using a webcam is really easy. To use a webcam firstly it needs to be installed in the computer.<br />

It can be installed using the installation CD. If the CD is not available the drivers can be downloaded from the internet. Secondly, Dorgem, an open source webcam capture application should be downloaded and installed. After installing dorgem, it is launched and the webcam option is selected from the camera selection drop-down list. Click the preview button to display the webcam view.<br />

The camera is manually adjusted according to the face area that the person wants to monitor. You can click the source button to make the adjustments of settings like color, brightness or contrast. Then hit OK after making the adjustments. You can see an option button you can tick on it. Place a check in the use motion detection check box.<br />

Many webcams may have to re connect dorgem after a certain interval. So, leave the check box unchecked as of now. If the webcam does not capture images then the use motion detection check box must be checked. The interval time should be as long as possible.<br />
<br />
Return to dorgem main page to create a profile, which is referred to as storage events. Store settings button is clicked to create an event. At this stage you can choose any file and click OK button. Enter a name for the event and enable it after setting an interval. Next click the filename button. Here a folder will be set to save the captured images. Special characters can be used in the file names. Click close, after giving an OK and then it will return to dorgem main window page.<br />

Do some actions like waving your hand or jumping or walking. If the settings are set correctly then some pictures will be captured in the images folder which was specified earlier. Take a look at it if there are no images captured, it means that the settings are not set correctly and the whole process needs to be redone and this can be done again and again until you can get the desired result. Each time be careful and double check each and every option. There is also a built in help option available in dorgem. It can be used as it will be very helpful. It can also be used for troubleshooting.<br />

A digital photo camera can be so nice, but if you had to switch to M$Win to view the pictures you might just forget about it completely. A similar problem exists for parallel-port scanners which also are not well-supported by Linux. Of course, you could buy a program like VMware and use M$Win on Linux but a cost-free and Linux-native version would be nicer, wouldn't it?<br />
<br />
For digital photo cameras, a solution exists: gphoto. With this program, digital cameras from different companies can be read out via the serial port and a few even via the USB port. The list of all supported modules can be found at http://www.gphoto.org/cameras.html . Most of the listed cameras are too old to be sold on the market. The protocol that is used to read out the camera is often similar if not identical compared to the new models. The main research activities of the companies focuses on the hardware of the cameras (resolution, compact size, ... ) and not the software. Before you spend money for a digital camera, you should test to see if the camera works well with gphoto.<br />
<br />
How could we test the program gphoto if we did not own a digital camera? We asked different companies for a test camera but only CANON and OLYMPUS supported us. CANON sent us their PowerShot20. OLYMPUS lent us their C-3030ZOOM and C-2100UZ for intensive tests. The two OLYMPUS cameras were not on the list of gphoto (20th of Nov. 2000) but they seem to use the same protocol as the older already-listed cameras. <br />
<br />
Installation<br />
<br />
First you get the latest version of gphoto on your computer. The source code and already-compiled packages for different systems (Mac, M$Win and Linux) and distributions can be downloaded from http://www.gphoto.org/download.htm l . Decompress the source code to the /tmp-directory:<br />
<br />

Then you change to the created directory and run "make":<br />

Now you connect the digital photo camera to the serial port of the computer. (In general, the link cable in the camera package has a 9pin serial connector. If your single 9pin connector is used for the mouse and only the 25pin connector remains, you have to buy an adapter first.) In gphoto, you change into the menu Configure -> Select Port-Camera Model and there you choose your camera or an older model.<br />
<br />
If you know the serial port address (COM1 through COM4 corresponds to ttyS0 through ttyS3 on Linux), the camera is connected and you can finish the configuration.<br />
Otherwise, you have to repeat the following steps for all serial ports until the camera responds.<br />
By default the serial ports can not be accessed by normal users but only root. However you should use gphoto with your personal account and thus the read and write access has to be weakened by resetting the file permissions.<br />
For the COM1 (corresponds to ttyS0 on Linux) this happens as root with:<br />
<br />
  >> chmod a+rw /dev/ttyS0<br />

You now click in the window on the "Save-Button".<br />
If gphoto reports an error (bottom-left in the main window), you try the procedure with a different serial port.<br />
<br />
Download of the pictures<br />
<br />
Most important is downloading the taken pictures, although gphoto offers other features as well (more about these later).<br />
First you can download the thumbnail from the camera. Therefore, gphoto offers two ways: either you just download the number of the pictures which will be displayed by small empty pictures. Or you download the real thumbnails which you see at the backside of the camera. The first option works faster and is recommended if you know exactly which pictures you want to download.<br />
Downloading pictures with the CANON camera, you have to set the wheel on the camera to a special position which does not allow you to look at the index at the same time, so you always have to download the thumbnail.<br />
The OLYMPUS camera can be set in any mode (except off) and communication between camera and computer is always working.<br />
<br />
After you know which pictures are worth a download, you check these and then select Camera -> Download Selected -> Images -> Save to Disk. After specifying the prefix of the file name and the selection of the destination directory, the download starts. The prefix is put at the beginning of the file name and the number of the thumbnail is added behind. Depending on the size and number of pictures you want to download, this can take a while.<br />
<br />
The transmission can be followed in the terminal window in which you started gphoto.<br />
The download from the CANON camera was quite problematic in a few cases. The terminal showed quite a few debug messages. In addition, it was not possible to download the largest picture that can be taken by the camera. Gphoto always stopped in the procedure and could not be used any longer. It had to be killed and re-started. A few times even the thumbnails could not be downloaded. A re-start of gphoto solved this problem. This error appeared independently ofthe PC being used.<br />
Maybe CANON should support the developers of gphoto or become involved in the programming of the camera module. As far as I know, no company provides a native Linux driver for their digital cameras. If a company decides to support Linux, the image of the company inside the Linux community will be very much enhanced. As least a link to gphoto placed on the Internet page of the companies, would be a good sign.<br />
<br />
Manipulating pictures with gphoto<br />
<br />
Gphoto offers the ability to download the pictures without saving them to disk and the pictures can be manipulated within gphoto itself. This makes sense if you have not become familiar with another graphic program.<br />
What must not be missing in any image program is the option to rotate the pictures in steps of 90 degrees. In addition several manipulations like contrast, brightness and colors can be changed. Unfortunately an automatic red-eye reduction is missing.<br />
Gphoto offers all the basic functions of a graphic program.<br />
For small changes it is sufficient, but a professional-level manipulation should be done with Gimp (Homepage: www.gimp.org ).<br />
<br />
More than saving pictures<br />
<br />
The functionality of gphoto does not end with manipulating pictures. Another feature is the use of the digital camera as a webcam. The actual picture can be taken by every click with the mouse or continuously. The slow connection via the serial port allows to you to grab about two pictures per second. Even it is possible to shoot pictures via mouse click. In addition, the camera settings (resolution, brightness) can be set from the PC via gphoto.<br />
<br />
The actual use of these features depends, of course, on the connected camera. The CANON camera has to be set to a special setting where no pictures can be taken, thus no photos can be shoot via mouse click. The OLYMPUS camera worked with (nearly) no problems. Just one crazy behavior occurred: If we selected Camera->Live Preview!, then a new window appeared and disappeared (or flashed) on the screen and gphoto crashed. After re-starting gphoto, this function worked correctly and this problem could be reproduced.<br />
<br />
gphoto and USB<br />
<br />
With the OLYMPUS camera, we were able to test the USB support with the new 2.4.0 kernel. The OLYMPUS C-3030Z was not specifically supported with this kernel, but the USB port recognized the camera. The cameras which are supported via USB are listed at http://www.gphoto.org/cam eras.html .<br />
The correct use of USB supported cameras is explained in the following steps<br />
<br />
    First you have to build and install a new kernel (2.2.19 or 2.4.x) with USB support. As well, the corresponding /proc device should be activated. It isn't required for the functionality but this will be the only way to see if your camera is connected and supported.<br />
    If the device /dev/tys.. or /dev/usb/ty.. do not exist, they have to be generated:<br />

    Behind driver you find the name of the driver which will be used by gphoto. If you find a (none) there your camera is not supported via USB. For all other lucky users, the procedure continues.<br />
    USB is only supported in the latest version of gphoto, thus you should download the latest code from the CVS server. A free beta version gphoto-2.0beta1.tar.gz exists which uses the library libusb. In the following, we briefly describe the installation of the CVS code.<br />
    To do this, you enter in a terminal (Documentation at http://www.gphoto.org/download.htm l):<br />

However, if you are not a mac user, then you will need to download UFRaw to support GIMP. For mac users, GIMP already comes with it so it's not necessary. If you're serious about producing an ebook then you would be well advised to produce it in Word or Open Office but market it in the ubiquitous pdf format. Pdf files are produced by Adobe Acrobat software but can also be created for free. One major advantage of having your ebook in pdf format is that it can be read on any computer using free software called Adobe Acrobat Reader. Another advantage is that pdf files can have your web links embedded and be secured against modification. Open Office is an excellent free alternative to Mircosoft Word that provides an "Export as PDF" feature.<br />

If your ebook production requirements are not exacting then you can quite happily use free software called PDF 995. The software displays adverts upon its use and if you want the advert free version then you have to part with $9.95 hence the name. PDF 995 comes in two parts: Pdf Edit and a signature utility for securing your pdf. PDF 995 works as a printer driver within your word processor to create the pdf, you can then add bookmarks and links to your pdf using Pdf Edit. Note that for the serious ebook marketer PDF 995 has some unacceptable limitations.<br />
<br />
The major problem with PDF 995 is its inadequate processing of links. In my experience there are instances where it simply doesn't create hyperlinks at all and when it does create them, the linking area is too small. There's also a lack of selectivity when creating hyperlinks with PDF 995 in that a hyperlink is created for each and every occurrence of a specified section of text in your document.<br />
<br />
You can instead create your pdf using Open Office. This enables you to add hyperlinks and these hyperlinks are carried over when you export your Open Office file into pdf format. This overcomes the limitations of PDF 995. If you plan to produce an ebook that can be freely distributed then it's important to secure it to prevent someone else branding it with his or her affiliate links. This can also be done using Open Office.<br />

Equipment makers who have a limited budget and require a continuous supply of control panels can find it difficult to afford the number of panels they need. Producing a panel involves two processes, designing the panel and manufacturing it - a double investment that can throw a kink in a small operating budget.
